The transition from the end of the backswing into the downswing causes many of the regular golfer absolute fits.

They lose their swing plane. They lose their spine angle. They lose their body position that can help them strike the ball consistently.

Having "lag" in the downswing is often discussed as a no win situation. That lag isn't in the best benefits for the average golfer. I can say that is flat out wrong.

Knee flex in transition is really the best way to help get the golfer down to the ball without forcing the club away and over the top of the plane.

You use the legs and not the hands.

The clubhead needs to stay up while you begin to drop down.

In today's golf instruction "lag" has ventured into the dirty word category. For some reason many instructors believe lag is detrimental to the golf swing.

This belief couldn't be farther from the truth.

Width in the golf swing is important- especially if we want the left arm and the shaft to form a nice straight alignment at impact.

Whilst not all great golfers had a perfectly rigid left arm right throughout the swing-

it is certainly something that allows us to put a pure downward strike onto the ball at impact.

and it is probably not what you think should happen that enables this key to consistency to occur.

I am not really sure when logic of keeping the left heel planted came about?

I do believe it has done more harm than good to golfers swing and in particular to golfers bodies.

Proper legwork and footwork is the essence of proper motion.

Staying flat footed and planted inhibits proper legwork and it makes the transition move just that much harder and forced rather than floating and free.
